Author is a companion tool used for authoring simple cellular automata web pages.
The multiple entry x input field provides a mechanism for specifying column dependent data, while the y input field specifies row dependent data. Entries in the x and y input fields are seperated by semicolons. The resultant table of cellular automata will have a number of columns corresponding to the number of x input field entries and a number of rows corresponding to the number of y input field entries.
The characters 'x' and 'y' can be thought of as variables. When they appear in other text input fields, the corresponding x or y input field entry will be used in the result table of cellular automata.
The Modern Cellular Automata software distribution contains the Modern Cellular Automata applet, which may be freely reproduced so long as it is not modified, and all of the HTML and Javascript "source code" for Modern CA Author and Modern CA AuthorXY (this web page). This code may be freely reproduced and modified. With the distribution you can experiment with a copy of this web page local to your computer, without web access.
The latest version of Modern Cellular Automata software may be downloaded from www.collidoscope.com/modernca/author.zip. This archive is about 40K in size.
