The Brain 3.5 rules take the four state rule 23b/ and attempts to "short circuit"
individual transitions, so that some result in cycles which consist of only a single
refractory state, instead of the two used by 23b/. The following rule variations are available:
Brain 3.5 1 - The rule 23b/
Brain 3.5 2 to 5 - 23b/ variations each with a single short circuit
Brain 3.5 6 to 11 - 23b/ variations each with two short circuits
Brain 3.5 12 - The rule 23bc/
Brain 3.5 13 to 16 - 23bc/ variations each with a single short circuit
Brain 3.5 17 to 22 - 23bc/ variations each with two short circuits
This lab allows experimentation with mixtures of the above rules, where the mixtures are constructed by
applying the first rule a number of times followed by applying the second rule a number of times.
